The sky was cloudless and impossibly blue the day this was painted — the kind of day Martha’s Vineyard saves for when it really wants to show off. The path stretches out ahead of you, flanked by that low, vibrant island shrubbery in every shade of green, and there at the end of it, bright white against all that blue, stands the Edgartown lighthouse. There is something about walking toward a lighthouse — the way it calls you forward, the way it simply stands. This is an impressionistic canvas full of saturated color and open air, painted to bring a little of that island light inside.
