Edgartown Lighthouse — Evening Light, Martha’s Vineyard Canvas Art
This was the first time I ever painted the lighthouse in Edgartown. The evening was cool and crisp, and that freshness made the light something else entirely — clear, still, quietly beautiful in the way that only the end of the day can be. I grew up going to Martha’s Vineyard long before it became what it is now. My family’s version of the island was not boutique hotels and polished storefronts. It was an A-frame on a plot of land, tents on the ground, and waking up to discover you’d slept on a tree root all night. Youth is wasted on the young — I know that now. I didn’t realize then how lucky I was, or how precious those mornings would become. This painting is the light I remember. The one that was always there, patient and unchanging, waiting for me to finally see it.
