Bass Harbor

I’d seen and admired photos of this lighthouse for years when my husband and I took a trip up to Bar Harbor for a long weekend, and since he knows how much I love painting them, we made a point to find this one.

Tucked away in Acadia National Park in Maine, perched at the top of a rocky cliff, Bass Harbor Lighthouse sits almost impossibly on rocks that divide the ocean from the forrest. One of the things I find most fascinating about this particular lighthouse is the lighter brown, almost yellow color of the upper rocks and break in a visible line against the dark grey of the rocks below.
Ultimately I think I was struck by the white of the lighthouse against the vibrant green of the trees, with the ocean crashing against the cliff.
